Nemo Gearbox Slipping

Friends, I'm at my wits' end! My 2015 Citroen Nemo (gasoline engine) with 219265 km is giving me absolute fits. The paddle shifters are practically useless – shifting is just NOT possible. The gearbox slips like crazy, shifts are unclean, and there's a horrible grinding noise when it actually decides to shift. And the response time of the paddles is slower than molasses in January! Worst of all, it's now stuck in emergency mode, and the error memory is overflowing with faults. Transmission diagnosis is already done, and the workshop told me, that the transmission control unit is defective. Anyone else experienced something similar? Is repair feasible?

Summary of the thread

A 2015 Citroen Nemo is experiencing severe gearbox issues, including slipping, unclean shifts, grinding noises, and slow paddle response, ultimately leading to emergency mode activation. The problem is diagnosed as a defective transmission control unit. The suggested solution is to replace the control unit, as similar cases have been resolved this way, potentially avoiding the need for a full transmission replacement.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Wow, sounds frustrating! I also drive a Nemo and had similar symptoms, though maybe not quite as extreme. Gearbox slipped when shifting, but I still had some paddle function if I remember correctly. Check your car computer, it might be the transmission control unit.

Could you tell me a bit more about the computer? My issue sounds exactly what the mechanic thinks, that it’s the control unit module, but I wanted to know if it’s actually as bad as they say. Did you have to replace the entire transmission, or were you able to just fix the control unit?

The workshop replaced only the control unit in my case. However, they've stated that the current control unit is very prone to failure, and offered me a small discount due to the circumstances. Seeing as it’s the same with yours, I’d suggest you might want to consider doing that too; your problems sound a little too familiar to me, they're also probably going to tell you that the control unit (car computer) is defective and needs replacement, which is also what the repair is pointing to in your situation with all the symptoms you have.

Thank you so much for the insight, that's incredibly helpful! I thought a hefty bill was coming my way. I've ordered a new control unit, and the workshop confirmed the likely 1000€ repair cost. Hopefully, this will finally resolve these awful electronic issues!
