Nissan 350Z Electrical Gremlins and Nav Failure

Hey, I'm having a weird issue with my 2003 Nissan 350Z with the gasoline engine. It's got about 102,000 km on the clock. Recently, the car's been throwing some odd electrical gremlins. I've got an error stored, experiencing general electrical malfunctions, and the navigation system is completely dead. I've hooked it up to a diagnostic tool, and it's pointing towards a potentially implausible programming of the control unit. Anyone experienced anything similar? I'm scratching my head here. I'm not sure if a software refresh could fix it or what.

Summary of the thread

A 2003 Nissan 350Z is experiencing electrical issues, including a dead navigation system and general malfunctions, with a diagnostic tool indicating a potential control unit programming problem. The problem may stem from a software glitch or corruption within the ECU. It is suggested to avoid self-reprogramming due to the risk of damaging the control unit and instead seek professional assistance from a workshop experienced with Nissan vehicles for a software refresh or reprogramming.

I had similar issues with my 350Z. Electrical faults can be a real pain. Given the symptoms you're describing, particularly the navigation system failure alongside the general electrical malfunctions and the error code pointing towards control unit programming, it does sound like a software glitch or corruption within the ECU could be the culprit. Did you notice any specific event that might have triggered this, like a jump start or any recent modifications?

Thanks for the quick response! No recent jump starts or modifications, it just started happening out of the blue. Was your issue exactly the same, with the nav system and all? And if so, what did you end up doing to resolve it?

Yes, the navigation system failing was a key symptom, along with other odd electrical behavior. Given that you haven't had any recent electrical work done, it further points to a software issue. I'd advise against trying to reprogram the ECU yourself unless you have considerable experience. The risk of bricking the control unit is high. Your best bet is to take it to a trusted workshop with experience in Nissan vehicles and let them diagnose and perform the necessary software refresh or reprogramming. It is annoying, but you'll rest easy.

Appreciate the advice! I'll book it into a local garage then. They quoted about 240€ to look at it, so I hope it fixes it. Thanks again for your help!
