Nissan Caravan Check Engine Light Cold Start
Summary of the thread
The 2007 Nissan Caravan's check engine light issue, primarily occurring during cold starts, may be due to a vacuum hose problem affecting the air supply. A defective hose connection from the secondary air pump to the air valve can cause improper air supply, leading to system errors. Checking for cracks or loose connections in these hoses is recommended, and if unresolved, professional inspection is advised to prevent potential engine stalling.

Wow, thanks for the quick reply! When you say 'air valve', are we talking about the valve that controls the secondary air injection? And which pump are you referring to? I am not sure what the hose connection looks like and I'd like to check it myself, can you give me any pointers?

Yes, I am referring to the secondary air injection valve. My apologies if my previous message was unclear. The pump I am referring to is the secondary air pump. If the check engine light is on, it is better to have a workshop check this, or you might damage your engine in the long term. I hope this helps!

Okay, I appreciate the clarification. I'll take a closer look at the hoses connected to the secondary air pump and valve. If I can't find anything obvious, I'll take it to a workshop. Just got the diagnosis back from the mechanic. It was indeed a defective hose connection from the pump to the valve, as you suspected! Repair cost 175€. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

I had a similar issue with my Caravan – though I can't recall if it was the exact same year model. The check engine light was on, and it turned out to be a defective hose connection from the pump to the air valve. It caused an improper air supply and threw off the whole system. Check all those vacuum hoses carefully for cracks or loose connections. It might save you a trip to the mechanic!
