Nissan Caravan Steering Problems

My 2022 Nissan Caravan with a diesel engine is having steering issues at 127k km. It feels like I'm wrestling a rhino to turn, the power steering feels weak, and the steering wheel is vibrating. I suspect the steering angle sensor coding is faulty. Traction control is also acting up. Has anyone seen this before? I checked all the sensors and alignment already.

Sounds rough! I had something similar with my Caravan, though it wasn't quite as violent. Steering effort increased, and there were some weird vibrations. Was it worse at certain speeds or during specific maneuvers? Could be the steering sensor. Did you check the steering column for any play? For me, it was the sensor. Maybe sensor failure?

Worse at low speeds when parking, yes, but the vibrations are there all the time. I haven't dug into the steering column itself yet. Was your issue also related to the sensor coding, or something else? Is this a common problem?

Low-speed maneuvering was a nightmare for me too! Definitely sounds like the same sensor issue. I'm no expert, but the coding was the culprit, from what I heard. I took it straight to a workshop, and they sorted it out quickly. Given the symptoms, get it checked by someone who knows steering systems. A faulty steering sensor can make the car undrivable quickly.

That's the nudge I needed. A trip to the mechanic is on the cards. Problem solved, bill was 195€.
