Nissan Clipper Auxiliary Heater Issue

Hi, I'm having a puzzling issue with the auxiliary heater in my 2011 Nissan Clipper, gasoline engine. It’s got about 50,697 km on the clock. The parking heater simply refuses to activate. I ran a diagnostic, and it's showing an error stored in the error memory. Any ideas where I should start looking?

Greetings! Auxiliary heater issues can be tricky. An error stored in the memory is certainly a breadcrumb worth following. Before diving too deep, have you checked the basics? Simple things like the battery voltage, as a weak battery can cause all sorts of spurious errors. Also, is the fuel tank sufficiently full? Some heaters are designed not to operate if the fuel level is low. Finally, have you verified that the coolant level is correct and that there are no signs of coolant leaks near the heater unit itself? These heaters rely on coolant circulation, much like the central heating system in your home relies on water flowing through the radiators.

Thanks for the quick reply! I did check the battery voltage, and it seems okay. The fuel tank is definitely more than half full. Coolant level seems normal too, and I don't see any obvious leaks. What's the next thing you'd suggest investigating?

Given that the basics appear to be in order, and you've still got that error code, it strongly suggests that the glow plug might be defective. The glow plug is essential for igniting the fuel within the heater, so if it's faulty, the heater won't fire up. It’s similar to a pilot light in a gas furnace - if the pilot light is out, the main burner won’t ignite. While it’s theoretically possible to test the glow plug yourself with a multimeter to check for continuity, I would highly recommend taking it to a qualified workshop. They have the proper diagnostic tools to pinpoint the problem precisely and can replace the glow plug with the correct part. Expect a repair cost somewhere in the region of 440€.

Thank you very much for your advice! I took it to a workshop, and you were spot on - it was indeed a defective glow plug. They replaced it, and the parking heater is now working perfectly! Appreciate your help in pointing me in the right direction.
