Nissan Crew Engine Stalling

My 2003 Nissan Crew with a diesel engine has a check engine light and sometimes stalls at idle. I've also noticed reduced engine power, and the car has 215359 km on it. I suspect a fuel volume regulator issue. Could it be a defective high pressure pump?

Sounds like a pain! I had similar symptoms on my old Opel Astra: check engine light, rough idling, loss of power. It turned out to be a faulty fuel regulator, which was linked to problems with the high pressure fuel pump. Is your fuel economy suffering too? Have you checked for any obvious leaks or unusual sensor readings? It could be a dodgy sensor fooling the system.

Thanks for the insight. Fuel economy does seem a bit worse lately. I haven't had a chance to check the sensor readings yet. What exactly was wrong with your Astra's pump? Did you experience engine misfire as well?

Yes, there was some engine misfire, especially when the engine was cold. The pump wasn't delivering consistent pressure, which caused the fuel regulator to work overtime, eventually leading to its failure. I'm no mechanic, but all the symptoms you described suggest a similar issue. You might want to get a professional diagnosis to confirm. It cost me about 1510€ to repair.

Thanks for sharing your experience, that’s really helpful. I'll take it to a workshop and have them check the high pressure pump and fuel regulator. It turns out that was the issue. Fuel volume regulator defective; high pressure pump defective
