Nissan Cube Preheating Lamp Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2013 Nissan Cube with a diesel engine is experiencing issues with the preheating lamp not turning off and the check engine light being on, accompanied by smoke during acceleration. The problem is suspected to be related to the glow control unit or possibly a faulty cable or plug connection. After running a diagnostic test, a code pointed to the glow control unit. The issue was resolved by cleaning a corroded connector and replacing a damaged wire, avoiding the need for a new unit.

Thanks for the tip! Yeah, I ran a diagnostic test, and it spat out a code pointing towards the glow control unit. But, before I shell out the money for a new one, I'm wondering if it could be something else? What exactly was the problem with your Astra? Was it just the control unit itself, or something connected to it?

In my specific case, the diagnostic tests also implicated the control module. Given the error codes you have obtained and the similarity in symptoms, it is highly probable that the control module is indeed defective. However, given your intermediate familiarity with vehicle systems and to forestall the possibility of misdiagnosis, I would recommend that you take your vehicle to a qualified workshop for comprehensive evaluation.

You were spot on! Took it to the shop, and it turned out to be a corroded connector on the glow control unit, just like I suspected. They cleaned it up and replaced a short section of damaged wire. Total cost was 95€ - way better than a whole new unit! Thanks for the advice; it gave me the confidence to push for a closer look at the wiring!

Greetings. I encountered a somewhat analogous situation with my previous vehicle, a 2016 Opel Astra diesel. The symptoms you describe bear a striking resemblance to what I experienced when the heating element control module exhibited erratic behaviour. Have you performed a diagnostic test to ascertain whether any error codes are present? These codes might provide greater clarity.
