Nissan Dayz Heavy Steering

My 2009 Nissan Dayz with a gasoline engine has heavy steering, almost like the power steering is failing. The steering wheel also vibrates, especially at low speeds. It only has 31419 km. Could this be a faulty steering angle sensor or bad coding?

Interesting. I had a similar issue with my 2014 Opel Astra. It turned out to be a faulty steering angle sensor messing with the traction control and power steering assist. Did you notice any alignment problems or unusual tire wear before this started?

Alignment seems normal, but I did lightly bump a curb recently. What specific symptoms did you see with your Astra besides the steering? Trying to confirm it's the angle sensor before I misdiagnose it.

With the Astra, the main symptom was increased steering effort, very noticeable when parking. I also felt a slight vibration, but not constantly. The error codes pointed to the steering angle sensor. Given your mileage and the bump, I'd suggest getting the sensor professionally diagnosed. Driving with a bad sensor can damage the steering column. You'll probably need a garage.

I took it to the workshop, like you suggested. The steering angle sensor coding was faulty, just like you said. Repair and recalibration cost 195€. Steering feels normal again. Thanks for your help!
