Nissan Frontier Diesel Fuel Injector Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Nissan Frontier diesel exhibited issues such as reduced power, rough idling, and excessive fuel consumption, suspected to be due to a rich running condition. Potential causes included problems with the mass airflow sensor, oxygen sensors, fuel injectors, or a clogged air filter. Diagnostic trouble codes pointed to a faulty fuel injector, which was confirmed and replaced, resolving the issues.

Yeah, I pulled the codes - it's pointing to a fuel injector issue. Fuel economy is terrible. Is it possible that a faulty injector could cause all these problems?

A defective fuel injector on your 2015 Nissan Frontier diesel will indeed cause the symptoms described. A leaking or improperly atomizing injector introduces excessive fuel into the combustion chamber, disrupting the air-fuel mixture. This leads to incomplete combustion, elevated hydrocarbon emissions, and potential catalytic converter damage over time. Considering the mileage, injector failure is plausible. I would advise a diagnostic inspection at a reputable workshop.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions! Took it to the shop, and you were spot on. Turns out it was a defective injector. Cost me 515€ to get it replaced, but she's running smooth again. Appreciate the help!

A rich running condition in a 2015 Nissan Frontier diesel can stem from several sources. Have you scanned the ECU for diagnostic trouble codes? Elevated fuel consumption, rough running, and reduced power are common symptoms. The mass airflow sensor (MAF), oxygen sensors, fuel injectors, and even a clogged air filter can contribute to an imbalanced air-fuel ratio. It would be prudent to verify the integrity of each of these components. Has the fuel economy changed drastically?
