Nissan Frontier DPF Warning Light and Smoke
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Nissan Frontier with a diesel engine is experiencing a DPF warning light and smoke during acceleration, indicating potential issues with the DPF not regenerating. The problem may be linked to the exhaust back pressure sensor. A similar case was resolved by replacing the faulty sensor, which resolved the warning light and smoke issues.

Thanks for the quick reply! Yeah, I checked the sensor, but I didn't see any obvious damage. You mentioned wiring. Was that the actual cause for you, or was the sensor itself the culprit?

In my case, it ended up being the sensor itself. After checking all the wiring, I bit the bullet and took it to a workshop. They confirmed the sensor was faulty and replaced it. It fixed all the issues instantly. Best of luck!

Thanks a lot! Sounds like I should just get the sensor replaced. I will head to the shop next week. The exhaust back pressure sensor was indeed defective. Replaced it for 245€ and now all is well!

Hey! I had something similar with my Frontier (don't remember the exact year), but same engine. I had the same symptoms: warning light, smoke, and DPF issues. Did you check the sensor itself? Might be worth looking at the wiring too, sometimes rodents cause problems.
