Nissan GTR Vanos Issue

I'm writing to ask about a potential issue with my 2023 Nissan GTR, gasoline engine. It has 165391 km. Recently, the check engine light came on, and I've noticed more fuel consumption. I suspect it may be the inlet VANOS mechanics. Could a bad camshaft solenoid valve or a power supply problem be the cause?

Summary of the thread

A 2023 Nissan GTR with 165,391 km is experiencing a check engine light and increased fuel consumption, suspected to be related to the inlet VANOS mechanics. Possible causes include a bad camshaft solenoid valve or a power supply issue. It is advised to read the diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) using an OBD2 scanner to confirm if the problem is within the VANOS system. The owner plans to have the car inspected at a workshop, where a bad camshaft solenoid valve was identified as the cause.

The check engine light and increased fuel consumption on your GTR do point to a possible VANOS issue. Have you noticed any other symptoms, like less engine power or rough idling? The VANOS system is sensitive, and even a slight problem in the solenoid valves can cause these issues. It's important to check if the error code confirms this, as other things may cause these error messages.

Besides the check engine light and higher fuel consumption, I haven't noticed less engine power, and the engine idles fine. Can you explain how to confirm if the error code points to the VANOS solenoid valves, or what diagnostic steps I should take?

If you're not seeing power loss or rough idling, that may mean the problem was caught early. If the check engine light is on, the car's computer has logged a diagnostic trouble code (DTC). These codes can be read with an OBD2 scanner, which many auto parts stores will do for free. Common codes related to VANOS issues often start with 'P00' or 'P03'. While not certain, those codes and your symptoms strongly suggest a problem within the VANOS system or with the solenoid valves. I recommend having the car inspected by a qualified workshop. VANOS issues can get worse if not fixed quickly.

I appreciate the insights. I'll schedule an inspection at a reputable workshop to have the error codes read and the VANOS system checked. It seems a bad camshaft solenoid valve was the cause, costing 250€ to repair. Thanks again for your help.
