Nissan Leaf 2009: Persistent Warning Light and Possible Brake Wear

Hey folks, I've got a 2009 Nissan Leaf (Electric engine, clocked 158404 KM) and I've been noticing a persistent warning light on my speedometer. I suspect it could be an issue related to worn brakes. Anyone faced a similar problem? Would appreciate any tips on resolving this or recommendations for a reliable mechanic, as my last visit wasn't exactly smooth. Thanks in advance!

Hey there, I recently had a similar issue with my 2012 Nissan Sentra. The warning light was on, turned out it was indeed because of worn brakes. Had to take it to the garage and they confirmed it was severe. The brake pads were pretty ground down and the rotors damaged, so they had to replace the whole lot, including calipers as well to ensure balanced braking. Not a cheap or quick fix, but better safe than sorry, right? You'd probably want a mechanic with good experience with Nissans; they'd quickly determine if it's just a sensor issue or actual worn brakes. I'd suggest you get your Leaf checked as soon as possible. These things can escalate if not given attention. Stay safe on the road!

Hey, thanks for the quick response! Definitely sounds similar to what I'm experiencing with my Leaf and you're spot on about staying safe. I'm gonna be booking in a service with a Nissan specialist asap. Out of curiosity, do you remember the dent this repair made on your wallet? And since the repair, has anything else cropped up or has it been smooth sailing? Cheers!

Hey, happy to help out! Oh man, the repair did sting a bit - it came to about 480€ to fix the worn brakes. Not cheap, but totally worth it when it comes to safety, eh? Since the repair, everything's been as smooth as a baby's bottom. No more worrying warning lights, and my Brake pedal feels like new. The bite is just right! Haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary, fingers crossed it stays that way, touch wood! So don't worry too much, your Leaf should be just fine once those pesky worn brakes are sorted. Keep it rubber side down!

Thanks! That's a bit pricey, but you're right, can't put a tag on safety. Also, hearing that your car's been smooth post-repairs gives me some peace of mind! Fingers crossed my Leaf works out alright too after the brakes fix. I'll try and keep the rubber side down as you suggested! Thanks again for your help. Take care and safe driving! Cheers!
