Thanks for the insight. When you say 'similar problem', did you also observe the transmission indicator light, and what turned out to be the root cause in your case? Was it also related to the automatic gearbox and slipping transmission as in my case? Did the transmission flush help?

Indeed, the transmission indicator light was on. The root cause was, like you suspected, an undervoltage issue affecting the transmission control module. Based on my experience, I would strongly suggest taking your Multi to a trusted workshop. The automatic gearbox can be complex, and a diagnostic check might be necessary to pinpoint the precise problem and prevent further damage.

I appreciate the advice. I took it to the workshop, and you were spot on. The undervoltage was the culprit. Repair and hydraulic fluid change ended up costing 240€. Thanks again for the help!

Interesting. I had a similar problem with my Mercedes-Benz C-Class a while back. The symptoms you're describing – the erratic shifting and the emergency mode – sound awfully familiar. Was there any noticeable pattern or specific situation when these issues started occurring? Things to check can be the hydraulic fluid and voltage levels.
