Nissan Note Crankcase Ventilation

Hi, I'm having some trouble with my 2009 Nissan Note diesel. The check engine light is on, and I've noticed a definite reduction in engine power. Also, it smokes a bit when I accelerate. My mechanic seems to think it's a crankcase ventilation valve issue at 180435 km. Anyone else experienced this?

Hey, I had a similar issue with my Note (not sure what year mine is, but it's a diesel too). Reduced power and a bit of smoke sound familiar. Have you checked for any obvious leaks? Sometimes it's as simple as a cracked hose. How's the idle?

Thanks for the reply! I haven't seen any visible leaks, but I'll double-check. The idle seems a little rough sometimes, like it's struggling. Was yours like that too? And what exactly ended up being the problem?

Yep, rough idle was exactly it. To be honest, I spent ages messing about, convinced I could fix it myself. In the end, I took it to a proper garage, they stuck it on the diagnostic and confirmed crankcase ventilation defective. Just book it in and save yourself the hassle.

Right, okay. Sounds like I should just bite the bullet and get it sorted properly. My mechanic quoted around 360€ for repair, which sounds about right. Thanks for confirming my suspicions!
