Nissan Note spongy brake pedal
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Nissan Note with a diesel engine is experiencing a spongy brake pedal and a brake fluid warning light. Despite no visible leaks, the issue may be due to worn brake pads causing the calipers to extend further, requiring more fluid. The suggested solution is to inspect and replace the brake pads, which resolved the problem and restored the vehicle's safety.

Oh really? I hadn't thought about that! How bad were yours when you had this happen? Did you notice any noises or anything else weird before the light came on?

They were pretty worn down, to be honest. I hadn’t noticed any noises, just the light and spongy pedal feel like you described. I'd get them checked ASAP if I were you; a mechanic will sort it out.

Thanks a lot for the advice! It turned out you were spot on. My brake pads were completely shot. Ended up costing me 480€ for new pads and a fluid change (ouch!), but at least my Note is safe again!

Hey! I have a Note as well, and I experienced something similar not too long ago. Check your brake pads. Low fluid could mean worn pads are causing the calipers to extend further, requiring more fluid.
