I haven't checked the ignition timing yet. The smoke is darker, maybe blackish. I'll check the error code soon. What was your experience with a similar issue? How did you resolve it?

Black smoke suggests incomplete combustion, pointing to deposits or timing. My knocking got worse. Fuel additives had minimal effect. A workshop diagnosed carbon buildup and recommended professional cleaning. Given the potential damage, especially with 170,000 km, I'd avoid driving it and consult a mechanic.

Thanks for the advice. I'll schedule an appointment with a workshop for diagnosis and repair. Professional cleaning of the combustion chamber resolved the knocking. The total repair cost was 425€.

I own a Nissan NV too. Your description sounds like a problem I had. Have you checked the ignition timing? Incorrect timing can cause knocking. What color is the smoke black, blue, or white? What's the error code?
