Nissan Platina NOx Catalyst Aging Exhaust Leak
Summary of the thread
A 2010 Nissan Platina exhibited a check engine light with an error indicating NOx storage catalyst aging, alongside an exhaust leak. The exhaust leak was identified as a potential cause, as it can introduce excess oxygen, disrupting the NOx catalyst's efficiency. A thorough inspection was recommended to locate the leak and assess the catalyst's condition. Upon inspection, the exhaust leak was confirmed to have damaged the NOx catalyst, leading to necessary repairs.

Thanks for the quick reply! Besides the check engine light and the exhaust leak, I haven't noticed any significant performance issues. Could a small exhaust leak really cause the NOx catalyst to fail?

A seemingly minor exhaust leak can indeed have a cascading effect on the NOx catalyst's efficiency. The leak introduces excess oxygen into the system, throwing off the delicate balance required for proper NOx reduction. Given the diagnostic code and the leak, a thorough inspection at a qualified workshop is advisable to pinpoint the leak's source and assess the catalyst's condition.

Took it to a shop, and you were right! It was a leak in the exhaust system, which damaged the NOx catalyst. Repair cost was 265€. Thanks for the help!

The symptoms you describe certainly point to a problem within the emissions system, possibly linked to the NOx catalyst. An exhaust leak could very well be the root cause, as it disrupts the system's ability to function correctly. Has the vehicle's performance been affected in any other way?
