Nissan Sunny Rich Running Issue

I'm facing an issue with my 2010 Nissan Sunny, gasoline engine. The engine is running excessively rich. Symptoms include reduced power, check engine light, rough running, high fuel consumption, and jerking upon acceleration. Could a defective injector be the problem? I've inspected the air filter and intake manifold. The mileage is 113124 km. Any insights?

Summary of the thread

The 2010 Nissan Sunny is experiencing a rich running issue, characterized by reduced power, check engine light, rough running, high fuel consumption, and jerking upon acceleration. A defective fuel injector is identified as a potential cause, leading to further complications such as damage to the catalytic converter and oxygen sensor. The suggested solution involves professional diagnostics and replacing the faulty injector, which resolved the issue in a similar case.

I had something similar happen with my Sunny, though I can't say if it's the exact same year. Reduced power and rough running sound familiar. Did you check the catalytic converter? Could be clogged, like trying to breathe through a straw.

Interesting analogy. I haven't considered the catalytic converter. How did you diagnose a problem with yours? Did the check engine light indicate anything specific, like an oxygen sensor issue perhaps?

The check engine light did point to the oxygen sensor, which the workshop said was damaged due to the rich running. They suspected a faulty injector which damaged the catalytic converter and the sensor. After replacing the injector, the oxygen sensor and the catalytic converter, everything went back to normal. Honestly, just take it to a reliable workshop. They'll know better than I do.

Your experience is illuminating. I appreciate you sharing your ordeal; it's steered me toward professional diagnostics. It turns out a defective fuel injector was indeed the culprit, leading to a cascade of problems, much like you described. The grand total, including injector replacement and catalytic converter repair, came to 515€. Thank you again!
