Nissan Urvan 2010 Diesel Engine Malfunction: Seeking Advice on Possible Crankshaft and Camshaft Misalignment

Metal shavings in oil

Engine shuts off by itself

Weird engine noise

Car won't start

Unsteady engine

Loss of engine power

Check engine light on

Hey, got a bit of a car issue and I'm hoping for some advice. I've got a 2010 Nissan Urvan, Diesel engine, racked up about 451,785 KM on the clock. Here's the deal: The check engine light's come on, the beast's shutting off on its own, power's dipped, the engine's super unsteady and to top it all off, it refuses to start. There's also this odd noise from the engine and I've found metal shavings in the oil (yikes!). I reckon it might have something to do with the crankshaft and camshaft alignment but I'm no expert. I'd usually take it to a mechanic, but my last experience was dreadful. Anyone faced something similar? How'd you sort it out and, importantly, did your mechanic rip you off? Looking forward to your thoughts and experiences! Thanks in advance!

Hey there, sounds like quite a pickle you're in! Also got a Nissan in my garage, a 2013 Nissan Patrol though. I came across something similar a while back. Like yours, my engine would cut out without warning and then refused to start a couple of times. The power was obviously down and the check engine light lit up like a Christmas tree. Thing was, my crankshaft position sensor was jamming. I ain't no mechanic but got some understanding from my last visit. From your symptoms, seems like the same issue. The sensor tracks the crankshaft rotation speed, kind of a safety check. If it fails, your car doesn't get the right signals, causing these issues. By the way, the metal shavings in your oil, it's bad! Looks like scrubbing bearings. Do get it attended to as fast as you can. My trip to the garage, it wasn't any funier than yours, bet ya. But the mechanic didn't seem like a shark. You need to find a good mechanic, someone you can trust. So, don't waste any more time. Get your Urvan checked up! Keep in mind, this is a serious, but not uncommon issue. Good luck!

Hey there! Thanks for chipping in and telling me about your crankshaft position sensor problem. Sounds like if what happened to your Patrol is going on with my Urvan, I might have a major issue in my hands. Your mention of the bearings scrubbing has me worried, and I'll be getting this attended to as soon as possible, trust me! By the way, do you remember how much you paid to get your car fixed when you had this problem? Apart from that, have you experienced any other complications since you got these issues resolved? Thanks again!

Hey, no worries! Yeah, the crankshaft sensor issue was indeed a pain. And it did cost me a fair bit to get it fixed, around 250.0€. But I guess that's the price we pay for our babies, right? Post that fix, my Patrol has been running pretty smooth. The key point here is the fact that there was an inconsistency in the alignment of the crankshaft and camshaft, but after my visit to the mechanic, it's all sorted out. I don't notice any unusual noises or the engine cutting out randomly anymore. As for the bearings, please get your Urvan to a mechanic as soon as you can! You don't want to risk any more damage there. Hang in there. You got this!

You're a real gem appreciate the advice! You're right, we do pay a premium for our babies, and it's gotta be done. I'm glad your Patrol is running smooth post the fix, gives me some hope. 250.0€ for the crankshaft sensor, eh? I'll keep that in mind as a rough estimate. I'm heading over to the mechanic first thing tomorrow, getting this hunk of metal looked at. The last thing I want is more damage! Really appreciate your advice and support. Wish me luck, I'll need it! Cheers!
