NX Gear Shift Indicator Failure

Hi, I'm having a strange issue with my 2017 Lexus NX gasoline. The gear shift indicator on the dashboard isn't working. It's just blank, and it's causing some pretty serious problems. I can't reliably engage gears, the automatic transmission seems to be slipping and shifting very roughly, and I'm even hearing grinding noises sometimes. I've pulled the error codes, and there's definitely something stored related to the transmission. Mileage is at 122194 km. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

That sounds eerily familiar! I had almost the exact same symptoms with my NX a while back. The gear selection display went haywire, and the transmission started acting like it had a mind of its own. It felt like trying to play the piano with boxing gloves on – just clumsy and unpredictable. Did you check the sensor?

Thanks for the quick response! I was thinking it might be a sensor issue, but I'm not sure where to start looking. Which sensor are you referring to, and do you remember any specific error codes you were getting? Any details would be a great help!

Okay, so I'm no mechanic, but the shop told me it was the control unit. Supposedly, it's a common failure point. If I remember correctly, they mentioned that a defective control unit can cause all those symptoms you described. I bit the bullet and had it replaced, and the problem vanished. I would advise going to a workshop!

Thanks so much for the advice! I took it to my local shop, and you were spot on – it was the control unit. They're quoting me around 1000€ for the repair, which seems reasonable given the symptoms. I appreciate you sharing your experience!
