Oil lamp lights up and engine overheats: experiences with Renault Twingo 2019

Hey guys! I have a 2019 Renault Twingo with a gasoline engine and approx. 61425 km on the clock. Last time at the mechanic was a real nightmare. Now the oil light is on, the engine sounds really weird and it's overheating. I have the feeling that the fault could be coming from the engine oil temperature sensor. Have any of you ever had a similar problem? How did it go at the mechanic? I would really appreciate your experience! Thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

A 2019 Renault Twingo owner is experiencing issues with the oil light being on, strange engine noises, and overheating. The owner suspects the engine oil temperature sensor might be the cause. Another person shared a similar experience with a Renault Clio, where the overheating was due to a faulty water pump, which was resolved by replacing it. The Clio owner also mentioned a past issue with an engine oil temperature sensor, suggesting it could be a potential cause for the Twingo's problems. The Twingo owner plans to visit a mechanic for further diagnosis and hopes for a straightforward resolution.

Hey buddy! Had a similar problem with my 2016 Renault Clio. The "coolant level too low" indicator lit up and the car got hotter and hotter, it also made strange noises coming from the engine. In my case, it was the water pump, which had given up the ghost and was no longer pumping coolant, which led to overheating. In the end, the pump had to be replaced. It wasn't a pretty sight, I can tell you. I hope it's not that bad for you. Good luck with your Twingo.

Hey, thanks for your reply! That sounds really bad with your water pump... I was already thinking that there might be more wrong with me than it first appears. Can you remember how much it cost you to replace the water pump? And have you had any problems since then, or is your Clio now running smoothly again?

Hey, sure, I still remember that. The total bill was €52 for fixing the "coolant level too low". Fortunately, I haven't had any further problems with the Clio since then. And as for your assumption about the engine oil temperature sensor... during my last visit to the mechanic, the problem with the sensor was fixed. So maybe you've hit the nail on the head and your problem really is coming from that. Nevertheless, I hope it's nothing serious and that your Twingo will be back in shape quickly!

Hey, thanks for the info! Fortunately, €52 is not that much. It's good to hear that your Clio hasn't caused any more trouble since then. I hope my Twingo will be fit again soon. I probably have no choice but to go to the garage and have it checked. But your words have given me hope that it might not be so bad after all. I will keep you up to date. Thanks again for your help, I really appreciated it!
