Oil lamp warning on Golf 2008: looking for experience and advice

Dear community, I'm a bit worried about my 2008 Golf with a gasoline engine and already 123487 km on the clock. My oil light has recently started flashing. The warning light in the speedometer is also on. I think it could be a malfunction of the engine oil pressure control. Have you ever had anything like this and how did it go with your mechanic? To be honest, I don't remember my last visit to the garage very well. Thanks for your help!

Summary of the thread

A 2008 Golf owner is concerned about a flashing oil light and a warning light on the speedometer, suspecting an engine oil pressure control malfunction. A similar issue was experienced by another person with a 2005 Passat, where the problem was traced to a malfunctioning engine oil pump and a defective wiring harness on the oil pressure control valve. The suggested solution is to have the vehicle inspected and repaired by a mechanic, with a previous repair costing around €350, which resolved the issue and restored the vehicle's functionality.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2005 Passat. The oil light was also flashing. The mechanic finally found a malfunction in the engine oil pump. Apart from that, there was also a problem with the warning light in the speedometer. It was actually a serious problem, which forced me to have it repaired immediately. I hope this helps you. Take it easy!

Hey, thanks for the feedback! So you've been through this before too, reassuring somehow. Do you happen to remember the cost of the repair and if anything else occurred afterwards? Would love to know what I should be prepared for.

Sure, no problem. In my case, it was - as you suspected - the engine oil pressure control, which actually had a problem. But since my trip to the garage, it's been fixed and runs like clockwork again. I spent around €350 on the whole thing because the wiring harness on the oil pressure control valve was oily and defective. It wasn't a cheap job, but since then I've had peace of mind and everything runs as it should. Hope that helps you. Just stay cool!

Unbelievable, thank you! It's always good to hear the story of someone who has been through the same thing. 350 sounds steep at first, but if it solves the problem and gives me peace of mind, then it's definitely worth it. I will contact my garage and get it sorted. Thanks for your encouragement and advice! Stay healthy and don't let it get you down!

Hey, Have you been able to solve your problem? I'm currently looking for a vehicle like this and am just finding out about the problems with these cars. I would be delighted if you could tell me what your problem was. Thank you in advance. Greetings Daniel
