Oil Light and Warning Sign Appearing in 2018 Kia Stinger with Metallic Bits in Oil: Seeking Advice
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Kia Stinger owner is experiencing oil and warning lights appearing on the dashboard, along with metallic bits in the oil, suggesting a potential engine oil pressure control issue. A similar case with a 2015 Kia Optima involved an oily and defective cable harness on the oil pressure control valve, which required cleaning and repair. The suggested solution is to address the oil pressure control valve issue promptly to prevent further engine wear and tear.

Hey there, your experience does sound eerily similar to what I'm dealing with my Stinger right now. A bit relieved to know that it's not exactly a 'catastrophe' but sure as hell, something that needs to be taken care of ASAP. With a heart like Stinger's, least we want is more wear and tear. That being said, I'm curious dude, do you happen to remember how much did it cost to get it all sorted out for your Optima? Also, has anything else related to this cropped up since then? Understanding the potential expenses will surely help me make some informed decisions. Thanks again for your insight!

Hey! Absolutely, this isn't something you should take lightly, especially considering the heart of the matter- the Stinger's engine. As for the cost part, yeah, I had to shell out around 350€ for cleaning and fixing the Cable harness on the oil pressure control valve, because it was rather oily and defective. I remember murmuring under my breath that cars can sometimes be money pits, haha! To answer your second question, I'm happy to tell you that since that day at the mechanic's shop, the problem hasn't recurred. Apparently, they did a decent job on the Cable harness and everything has been pretty smooth sailing with my Optima since then. So, fingers crossed your beast won't be causing you such headaches anymore either, after you get this sorted out. Keep me posted, alright? Good luck!

Thanks a bunch for the info! 350€ isn't light on the pocket but sure it's comforting knowing that it might be a one-time expense, and that it'll possibly help avoid future problems - gotta shell out some cash to save some more, I guess. Your whole experience gives me a sigh of relief that this could actually be a one and done deal. I’ll make sure to get my Stinger to a trustworthy mechanic ASAP. If all goes well, hopefully, my beast won’t throw any more curveballs along the way. I'll definitely keep you updated about how it turns out. Thanks again! Your advice has been invaluable. Cheers!

Just curious, could any of these issues have been warranty related so as to not pay out of pocket?

It's possible that issues like these could be covered under warranty, especially if the vehicle is still within the warranty period and the problem is due to a manufacturing defect. I recommend checking your warranty terms or contacting your dealership to see if this repair might be covered. Let me know how it goes or if you have any other questions!

Hey! Hmm, sounds pretty similar to what happened to my 2015 Kia Optima a while ago. I was dealing with the same symptoms - warning lights popping up and metal scraps in my oil. You're right in thinking it's about the oil pressure control. In my case, it turned out to be an oily/defective cable harness on the oil pressure control valve. So, it wouldn't surprise me if that's what's up with your Stinger too. When I had it checked at the garage, the mechanics did a pretty solid job explaining it to me. They had to clean up the oil spill and fix the damaged harness. These parts are pretty critical as they regulate the oil pressure that's vital for the engine to run smoothly. Serious issue? Hmm... Probably wouldn't term it a 'catastrophe', but definitely something you don't want to brush off. Without proper maintenance, it can lead to more wear and tear on your engine - definitely not what you need with a Stinger. Good luck dealing with this. Hope your experience turns out better than your last!
