Oil light and warning signals on Citroen C6 2009: experience and advice wanted
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Citroen C6 owner is experiencing an oil light and warning signals, along with metal shavings in the oil, possibly due to a defect in the engine oil pressure switch. A similar issue was resolved in a Citroen DS5 by replacing the engine oil pressure switch and cleaning the oil system, which restored the vehicle's performance. The suggested solution is to consult a mechanic for a similar repair, which has proven effective in a comparable situation.

Hey, thanks for your reply! Your DS5 story sounds really similar to mine with my C6. Can you remember what you paid to have the engine oil pressure switch replaced and the oil system cleaned? And did you have any further problems after that or did everything run smoothly?

Hey, no problem, you're welcome! It cost me around €175 to replace the engine oil pressure switch and clean the oil system. I have to admit, I gulped at first when I saw the bill. It was really expensive, but since then my DS5 has been running like a dream again! I haven't had any further problems since I had the defective engine oil pressure switch repaired. Everything is great! And of course I've also replaced the wrong engine oil since then, so there's nothing to risk. So don't despair, your C6 will get through this too!

Hey thanks for the encouragement, buddy! 175€ isn't as bad as it sounds at first, considering there wasn't another problem afterwards. I'm already planning an appointment with my mechanic and hope it goes as smoothly as it did for you. Your DS5 story has actually put my mind at ease a little. Will be fine, thanks again for the helpful tips!

Hi buddy, I had a similar problem with my 2012 Citroen DS5. I was also found to have incorrect engine oil in the engine and I also had metal shavings in the oil. In my case the problem was actually serious, had to have it fixed immediately. In the end, the engine oil pressure switch was replaced and the entire oil system cleaned, along with replacing the engine oil. It was quite a job, but after the oil change and cleaning it ran like clockwork. Don't worry, it all sounds worse than it is. Just make an appointment with your trusted garage. They'll get it sorted!
