Oil Pressure Alert in Tiguan Despite Recent Sensor Fix

My Tiguan started making concerning engine noises and the oil pressure warning came on while driving today. Already checked the oil level which seems fine. Car has 116303km on the clock and its a 2023 gas model. Had some issues with my last mechanic visit and want to avoid going back there. Anyone experienced similar warning signs? Looking for recommendations on what to check and if this needs immediate attention or can wait a few days. The oil pressure sensor was actually replaced during my last service, which makes me a bit suspicious about the work quality.

I experienced identical symptoms on my 2020 VW Passat TSI last month. The combination of engine noise and oil pressure warning definitely requires immediate attention, this is not something to delay. Had a complete oil pump failure in my case, which was causing insufficient oil pressure throughout the engine. The oil pressure sensor readings were correct, showing dangerously low pressure despite adequate oil levels. The repair involved replacing the entire oil pump assembly and cleaning the oil pickup tube, as metal debris from the failing pump had contaminated the system. This was a serious issue that could have led to complete engine failure if ignored. Some key indicators that pointed to oil pump problems: Oil pressure gauge showing inconsistent readings, Ticking noise from the engine, especially at idle, Warning light triggering during normal driving, Normal oil levels but pressure issues Would strongly advise against driving the car until properly diagnosed. Engine damage from low oil pressure can happen very quickly. The symptoms match classic oil pump failure patterns, and given the recent sensor replacement, a full system inspection is warranted. Best to have it towed to avoid potential engine damage. This type of repair requires specialized diagnostic equipment to properly verify oil pressure readings and inspect the pump assembly.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the oil pump failure. Your description matches my situation perfectly. After reading about your case, I took my Tiguan to a different certified VW shop right away. Turned out it was also the oil pump, plus they found the oil filter clogged with metal particles, likely from the degrading pump. Good call on the towing advice, really glad I didnt risk driving it further. Just curious, how much did your repair end up costing? Mine came to 890€ including parts, labor and oil change. Also wondering if youve had any related issues pop up since the repair? My engine runs much quieter now, but I keep checking the oil pressure readings just to be sure everything stays normal.

Glad you had it checked right away and got it fixed properly. My repair bill came to 755€ for addressing the oil pump failure, which included a complete system flush to remove metal particles. Since the repair three weeks ago, my engine bearings have been running smoothly with no concerning noises or oil pressure issues. The oil pressure gauge now shows consistent normal readings across all RPM ranges. The mechanic did a thorough job cleaning the entire oil system and installing a new high-quality oil filter to prevent any oil leakage or pressure drops. Your cost seems reasonable considering they also had to deal with a clogged oil filter. The most important thing is the repair was done properly this time, preventing potential catastrophic engine damage. Keep monitoring those pressure readings for peace of mind, but with a properly functioning oil pump, you shouldnt see any related problems going forward.

Thanks for all the advice. Finally sorted everything out with a new mechanic. After seeing your warning signs matched mine exactly, I had it towed to a certified VW shop instead of risking a drive. Smart move, they confirmed a failing oil pump and found metal debris in the clogged filter. The repair cost me 890€ total, covering the new pump, filter, labor and fresh engine oil. Not cheap but worth every cent to avoid major engine damage. The engine runs so much smoother now, that worrying noise is completely gone. Been watching the oil pressure gauge like a hawk since the fix last week. All readings stay steady now, even at idle. Really glad I got a second opinion instead of going back to my old mechanic. The new shop did thorough work documenting everything they found and fixed. Much more confidence in their service than my previous experiences.
