Oil pressure problems and metal shavings in engine oil in BMW 3 Series Diesel (2013) after 87999km
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
The BMW 3 Series Diesel (2013) with 87999km on the clock is experiencing oil pressure problems, indicated by an illuminated oil light and metal shavings in the oil. The suspected cause is a failing oil pump leading to low engine oil pressure, which could result in engine damage. The suggested solution is to avoid starting the engine and have the vehicle inspected at a garage. A potential outcome, if engine damage is confirmed, could be the costly replacement of the engine.

Hey, thanks for your answer. That's exactly what I'm afraid of with my 3 Series. Do you remember what you paid for the repair? I would really appreciate more information.

Hey, sure, I still remember the costs. The garage had organized a used engine for me at the time and then installed it in the vehicle straight away. But the whole thing cost me just under 5000 euros, including the engine and the labor.

Hello, oh ok that is of course a lot of money that I would have to invest if it turns out to be engine damage. But I'll have the vehicle taken to the garage for a closer look. Thanks for the information!

Hello Paul, unfortunately I don't understand exactly what you mean. Can you explain in more detail exactly what you mean or what your problem is?

Take out a warranty on your car which covers the part your concerned about, maybe have to wait a couple weeks minimum before making a claim but saves you forking out…. Beat the system and save yourself cash

Hello, I have a BMW 316d (built in 2010). I had a similar problem to yours. I also had the oil light on and metal shavings in the oil. These were serious signs that the oil pump was failing, causing low engine oil pressure. Normally this means that you have engine damage, it was the same with me. But maybe you're lucky and it's something else. If I were you, I wouldn't start the engine again!
