Oil Pressure Warning Light Mystery

Okay, I'm officially pulling my hair out! The oil pressure warning lamp keeps lighting up in my 2015 Mini Paceman diesel. Along with the light, there's a warning symbol in the speedometer. I had the error memory read, and it's pointing to a faulty engine oil temperature sensor. Could a defective temperature sensor really cause all this? The paperwork I got back mentioned the cable or plug connection of the component may be defective. I just don't know where to start!

The symptoms you describe suggest a problem with the oil temperature sensor circuit. The error code stored in the memory would be helpful in confirming this. Have you checked the sensor's wiring and connector for any signs of damage or corrosion?

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't had a chance to check the wiring myself yet, as I'm not really sure what I'm looking for. Is there a specific wire or pin on the connector that is a common culprit, or should I just look for anything obvious like frayed wires or corrosion?

Based on your description and the error code, a faulty oil temperature sensor is the most probable cause. As previously stated, inspect the wiring and connector. However, due to the complexity of modern vehicle electronics, I recommend taking your Mini Paceman to a qualified workshop for diagnosis and repair.

Just wanted to say thanks for the insight! Took my Paceman to the shop, and it was indeed the oil temperature sensor, just like you said. They replaced the temp sensor, and everything is back to normal. Cost me 95€, which isn't too bad, I guess. Really appreciate the help!
