Onix hissing sound and fuel consumption
Summary of the thread
A 2022 Chevrolet Onix owner is experiencing higher fuel consumption, a check engine light, and a loud hissing sound during acceleration. The suspected cause is a leak in the air intake system, possibly a leaking intake hose. A suggestion was made to inspect for cracks or loose connections in the intake hose and to use carb cleaner to detect leaks. Ultimately, it is recommended to have a mechanic inspect the vehicle, as a similar issue was resolved with a hose replacement.

Thanks for the tip! No engine misfires or rough idling, but the hissing is definitely louder when the engine is cold. Is there a way to confirm the leak besides visual inspection?

You could try spraying some carb cleaner around the intake hose while the engine is running. If the engine RPM changes, that's a good indication of a leak. But honestly, with those symptoms, I'd recommend getting it checked out by a mechanic. Could be a crack in the intake manifold itself. I ended up paying around 100€ for a hose replacement at the workshop, solved the issue instantly.

Thanks for the advice! I'll take it to a workshop to get it checked out. Sounds like it is the intake hose and 100€ is a reasonable price to pay. I appreciate the help!

I had a similar problem with my Onix. Check for cracks or loose connections in the intake hose between the air filter and the throttle body. Have you noticed any engine misfires or rough idling?
