Opel Adam no longer starts after the car has been parked for a night

Weak battery when starting the engine

Dim or flickering lights

Hello everyone, I have a problem with my 2014 Opel Adam (gasoline, 214567 km). When starting, the battery is low and the lights flicker or are dimmed. Could this be due to severe self-discharge of the battery? I had a bad experience at my last mechanic visit and am therefore unsure. Has anyone had similar problems and can share their experiences? Thanks in advance!

Hey, I once had a similar problem with my 2016 Opel Corsa (also petrol). The symptoms were almost exactly the same: weak battery and flickering lights when starting. In my case, it was ultimately the control unit that was faulty. The control unit was read out in the workshop and it turned out that there were several error codes that pointed to the problem. This was definitely a serious matter that should not be ignored. The control unit had to be replaced and then everything worked perfectly again. If your mechanic wasn't helpful, I would recommend getting a second opinion. Hope this helps you a bit! Greetings

Hey, thanks for your answer! That sounds really similar to my problem. Do you remember how much the repair cost? And has anything else come up since then? Would be great if you could share that with me. Kind regards

Hey, sure, I can give you the info. In my case, the cost of replacing the defective control unit was €600 in total. That solved all the problems with the battery and the flickering lights. And yes, since I had it done at the garage, nothing like that has ever happened again. In particular, the problem with the heavily discharged vehicle battery due to self-discharge was completely resolved. I would really recommend having your control unit checked, it sounds like that could be the culprit in your case too. Best regards!

Hey, thanks for your detailed reply! 600 is quite a lot, but it's good to know that it has completely solved the problem. I'll definitely make sure I have my control unit checked. Maybe it really was my fault that I didn't get a second opinion straight away. Greetings
