Opel Insignia check engine light, loss of power and the engine starts badly
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Opel Insignia Diesel is experiencing multiple issues, including black smoke from the exhaust, a check engine light, longer cold start times, loss of power, uneven engine running, jerking during acceleration, stalling, and vibrations at idle. The suspected cause is a defective injection valve, but similar symptoms in another vehicle were resolved by addressing an oxidized plug connection that interrupted contact with the control unit. It is suggested to check the plug connections and injection valve to potentially resolve the problem.

Hey, thanks for the tip! Sounds like a similar problem to mine. Do you happen to remember how much you paid for the repair in total? Has anything else happened to your Astra since then, or is it now running perfectly again? Best regards!

Hey, no problem, gladly! Yes, since I had it fixed at the garage, my Astra has been running again without any problems. The defective function of an injection valve was actually also found in my car and fixed by repairing the plug/cable connection for a total of €155. It was a lesson to me to get a specialist on it straight away if such symptoms occur. Avoids major damage and subsequent costs. So yes, after the repair the car purrs like a kitten again. I can only recommend that you have this checked on your Insignia. I hope this helps you and good luck with your car! Best regards!

Hey, thanks for the detailed information! It really sounds like my Insignia could have the same problem. I'll definitely take your tips to heart and have the plug connections and the injection valve checked. Hopefully it will help! I have to say, I've had really bad luck with garages recently. Last time, the mechanic said it was a software problem, but that obviously wasn't the case. If it's that problematic again this time, I'll probably have to change garages. Keep your fingers crossed that it works this time. Thanks again and best wishes! Best regards!

It sounds like your vehicle may be going into "limp mode" due to a detected issue. This could be caused by a variety of things such as a faulty sensor, a problem with the turbocharger, or a fuel delivery issue. I would recommend starting with a diagnostic scan to identify any error codes. This will help narrow down the potential causes. Please keep us updated on your progress and let us know if you have any further questions.

Hello, I had similar problems with my Opel Astra 2012. In my case it was a defective plug/cable connection. The symptoms were also black smoke, check engine light, loss of power and rough engine running. At the workshop, it turned out that a plug connection was oxidized, which meant that the contact to the control unit was repeatedly interrupted. They replaced the affected plug and checked and cleaned all the cable connections. This was a more serious matter, because a bad contact can lead to misfiring and mess up the entire electronics. After that, the engine ran perfectly again. Maybe have the plug connections checked? Could also be the case with your Insignia. Good luck!
