Orlando Brake Light Error
Summary of the thread
A 2010 Chevrolet Orlando diesel was experiencing a complete brake light failure and an error message in the infotainment system. The suspected cause was a faulty brake light switch, but it was later identified that the issue stemmed from unintentional pressure on the brake pedal. This pressure kept the brake lights on, leading the car's computer to assume a fault. Correcting the habit of resting the foot on the pedal resolved the issue without any repair costs.

Thanks for the quick response. Your suggestion about unintentional brake pedal application is intriguing. Could you elaborate on why this might trigger such a cascade of errors, specifically the error message in the infotainment system? I am trying to understand the logic.

Sure thing. Modern cars are full of sensors. The infotainment system isn't directly linked to the brake light itself, but the car's computer can assume something is wrong if the brake lights are on for an extended period without any deceleration being registered by other sensors. It is an edge case, and the software assumes you are in danger, and flags the error. If that isn't the case, I would really recommend going to a workshop to get it checked out.

It appears the root cause was, indeed, an inadvertent application of the brake pedal. It seems I have been resting my foot on the pedal, triggering the error. Correcting this habit has resolved the issue, incurring no repair costs. Your assistance has been invaluable.

That sounds incredibly frustrating! I had a similar electrical issue with my old Renault Scenic. Different car, I know, but the symptoms ring a bell. It might sound daft, but have you checked the user manual? Maybe you are resting your foot on the brake pedal without realising? If the pedal is pressed, even slightly, the brake light will be on, and after a while, the car will assume something is wrong.
