Orlando EGR Valve Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2010 Chevrolet Orlando diesel with 72,000 km is experiencing reduced power, a check engine light, smoke during acceleration, rough engine performance, increased fuel consumption, jerking, and a loud hissing sound. These symptoms suggest a potential issue with the EGR valve, which controls emissions and can cause such problems if defective. The solution involves diagnosing and potentially replacing the EGR valve, as confirmed by another owner with similar issues, leading to improved vehicle performance.
Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't run a diagnostic check myself, but given the symptoms, I'm fairly certain it's EGR-related. Was your fix also the EGR valve itself, or did you find anything else contributing to the problem?

Yep, mine was the EGR valve alright. A real pain. Honestly, with those symptoms and your mileage, just get it to a workshop, unless you're feeling brave and want to tackle it yourself. A faulty EGR valve can mess with your emissions test big time, and you don't want that headache. Replacing it isn't usually too crazy expensive, but best to get a pro to diagnose it properly and make sure there aren't any other underlying issues. Could also be something like a vacuum leak in the EGR system, but that is less common.

Thanks for confirming! I suspected as much. I'll book it in with a mechanic. Turns out the EGR valve was defective and jammed. Cost me 355€ including parts and labor. Runs like a dream now.

Sounds familiar! I had similar symptoms on my Orlando a while back. Reduced power, check engine light, and the smoke show... yeah, been there. The EGR valve controls vehicle emissions, and when it goes bad, it throws everything off. That hissing could very well be related to the EGR system too. A defective EGR valve can be stuck open or closed, causing the engine to run rough and affect performance. Did you run a diagnostic check? What codes did it throw?
