Orlando weak battery and flickering lights
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Chevrolet Orlando with a diesel engine exhibited symptoms of a weak battery and flickering lights, raising concerns about a faulty battery sensor. A faulty sensor can send incorrect information to the car's computer, disrupting the charging system. Checking the voltage across the battery terminals can help diagnose the issue, with a healthy system showing 13.5-14.5 volts. The battery sensor is typically located on the negative terminal, and professional diagnostic tools are recommended for accurate identification and replacement. The issue was resolved by replacing the defective sensor.

Thank you for your reply. I have not checked the voltage yet. Where exactly is the battery sensor located?

On my Peugeot, the battery sensor was directly attached to the negative terminal of the battery. It's a small module with a wiring harness connected to it. Yours might be in a similar location, so take a look at the battery terminals and trace the wires. Honestly, diagnosing these modern electrical gremlins can be a pain. Unless you're confident with electrical testing, I would advise going to a workshop. They have the proper diagnostic tools to pinpoint the issue and replace the sensor. It will probably save you a lot of frustration. Believe me, I spent weeks fiddling with mine before giving up.

Appreciate the advice. It did turn out to be a defective battery sensor. The workshop replaced it for 315€. All appears well now.

Hey there. Those symptoms are super familiar! I had a similar issue with my 2016 Peugeot 308. Weak starts and flickering lights drove me nuts. Turns out, these cars have a battery sensor that monitors battery health, voltage, and temperature. If it goes bad, it sends wrong info to the car's computer, messing with the charging system. Have you checked the voltage across the battery terminals when the engine is running? A healthy system should be around 13.5-14.5 volts. Anything significantly lower might point to a sensor issue preventing proper charging.
