Overheating and check engine light on Renault Scenic 2012: Possible malfunction of the auxiliary coolant pump?

Hey guys, I need your help. My 2012 Renault Scenic with gasoline engine and 136670 km on the odometer is showing the check engine light and is totally overheating. After a bad experience with my last garage, I think the problem could be due to a malfunction of the auxiliary coolant pump. Have any of you experienced something similar? What experiences have you had with your garages? Thanks in advance!

Hey, I had something similar with my 2015 Renault Clio. The light came on and there was an overheating problem. In my case, the cable connection leading to the cooling system was actually defective. So, if your Scenic also has this problem, it could actually be the cable connection. It wasn't a minor problem, but luckily it was fixed and no more problems since. The guy at the garage simply replaced the connection and everything worked fine again. So, don't despair, it can be done. Good luck!

Hey everyone, it seems we've all been in this situation with our Renaults. The same thing happened to me a few months ago with my Scenic. It turned out that something else was wrong besides the cooling system. How much did it cost you to repair that cable connection, old friend? And have there been any other incidents since then or has everything run smoothly since then?

Hi there, that reminds me again what a fuss it was. But since I've been to the mechanic, the problem with the malfunctioning auxiliary coolant pump has disappeared. The good man repaired the cable connection and since then my Clio has been as good as new. As for the cost, he charged me €170 for the whole service, including parts and labor. Seems a lot, but to be honest, if the car runs like a kitten again afterwards, every penny is well spent, isn't it? And since then - toi toi toi - everything has been fine, no new problems have arisen. Keep your chin up, I'm sure things will soon be running smoothly again!

Thanks for the quick reply and the information. I am really reassured to hear that you both had good experiences with your garages. Your advice was very helpful. The €170 doesn't sound cheap, but it's worth it to me if my Scenic runs like clockwork again afterwards. I'm taking it to the garage tomorrow morning and hope that the problem will be solved quickly. I'll keep you up to date! Thanks again, you guys are the best!
