Overheating and check engine light on the Peugeot 4008: Possible causes and solutions

Hi guys, I'm a bit worried about my Peugeot 4008 from 2013, it runs on gas and only has 6218 KM on the clock. Recently it started to overheat and the check engine light keeps coming on. The last time I took it to the garage I really had no luck and I have a feeling that this time it might be the auxiliary coolant pump that is acting up. Have any of you experienced similar problems? How did it go for you at the garage? I want to be better prepared next time... Thanks in advance for your help! Greetings

Summary of the thread

A 2013 Peugeot 4008 is experiencing overheating and a persistent check engine light. The owner suspects the auxiliary coolant pump might be the issue. Another person shared a similar experience with a different Peugeot model, where the problem was traced to a faulty cable connection affecting system communication, which also caused overheating. Repairing the cable connection resolved the issue, suggesting that checking and possibly repairing the cable connection could be a viable solution for the 4008's problems.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hi, I had similar problems with my 2010 Peugeot 3008, the symptoms were pretty much the same. At my last inspection it was actually the cable connection that was faulty. The cables were damaged and preventing proper communication between the systems, causing the check engine light to come on constantly. Regarding the overheating you mentioned, this could also be related to the cable connection. It actually took some work at the time to fix the problem, but since then my car has been running great again. So it was definitely a serious problem that needed to be fixed. Hope this helps you. Best regards

Hello, thanks for the quick reply. That sounds pretty similar to my 4008, but now you've put my mind at rest. Can you still remember the approximate repair costs at the time? And did any other problems occur after the repair, or did everything run smoothly afterwards? Many thanks and best regards!

Hi, I'm glad I was able to put your mind at ease a little. As far as the costs are concerned, I spent around €170 on repairing the cable connection. A bit steep, but everything has been running smoothly since the workshop visit. So I can tell you that it was worth it. And yes, the problem with the malfunctioning auxiliary coolant pump was also fixed. Since then, everything has been running without any major incidents. All in all, the visit to the workshop has done its job! I hope this helps you and wish you that your Peugeot will soon be running smoothly again! Best regards!

Hello, thank you for the detailed information. 170 is of course a lot of money, but if it helps and the problem is solved afterwards, then I would definitely invest it. I'm a bit relieved that it could simply be the cable connection and not necessarily the auxiliary coolant pump. This will definitely make me feel better about going to the garage! Thanks again for your help and good luck with your Peugeot! Best regards!

Good day, I drive a Peugeot 4008 and have been having problems for some time. When I drive it seems like I am accelerating slower, and the car is giving itself too much diesel. Already three times I have had it read out, and on the last one there were not even any more problems. This was in a Bosch center, and they still didn't have the correct readout codes from Siemens. Of course I was allowed to pay. Would the problem be my injector or the pump? It all costs a lot of money anyway, and no one can say what exactly is wrong. Thank you Nadine

Hi Nadine, it's difficult to pinpoint the exact issue without inspecting the vehicle, but based on your description, it could be a fuel delivery issue. This could be due to a faulty fuel injector, a failing fuel pump, or even a clogged fuel filter. I would suggest starting with the simplest check - replace the fuel filter if it hasn't been changed recently. If the problem persists, then it might be worth having a mechanic inspect the fuel injectors and the fuel pump. Please keep us updated on your progress. Do you have any other questions?
