Overheating and flashing check engine light on 2012 diesel G-Class - experience and solutions wanted

Hi guys, I'm having a bit of stress with my 2012 diesel G Class (98219 km), we have a small problem: it keeps overheating and the Check Engine light is flashing. I assume it could be due to the limited function of the coolant pump. Have any of you ever had this problem and how did you solve it with your mechanic? Didn't get such great treatment last time, would be good to know what to expect. Thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

The issue revolves around a 2012 diesel G-Class vehicle that is overheating with a flashing Check Engine light. The problem is suspected to be due to a malfunctioning coolant pump. A similar issue was experienced by another individual with a 2015 G-Class gasoline engine, where a faulty cable on the pump/control unit was identified as the cause. The recommended solution is to have the vehicle checked and repaired by a mechanic as soon as possible to avoid further damage.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, you hit the nail on the head. Had the same thing with my 2015 G Class gasoline engine. Pretty annoying, especially when you're on the highway. Mine actually had a faulty cable on the pump/control unit. Both the coolant pump and the control unit had to be repaired. The mechanic said it was a serious issue and needed to be fixed immediately to avoid major damage. So, my advice to you would be to take it to a garage quickly and get it checked. Hope that helps you. Take care!

Thanks for your advice, I'll get to work on it right away! Do you happen to remember how much the repair cost you back then? And have you had any other problems with these parts since then? Best regards!

Moin, sure, I still remember. The whole thing cost me €220 at the time. Since the issue with the coolant pump and the control unit was resolved, there have been no further problems. It was probably just the cable on the pump that was defective. So, don't be afraid to go to the mechanic. Once the fault has been rectified, your G-Class should run perfectly again! Best regards!

Hi, ah, that sounds like manageable costs at least. That reassures me a little. I hope it's just the cable in my case. In any case, I'll take it to the workshop as soon as possible and have it looked at. Thank you for sharing your experience with me, it really helps. Best regards back!

These codes the app is giving have completely changed from the last time I ran a diagnostic Are these codes correct? Were the old codes correct? Very confused and have zero confidence in what it’s telling me now :(
