Overheating and indicator light on the Ford Territory model year 2012

Hi folks, the indicator light has recently come on in my 2012 Ford Territory (petrol engine, 75711 km run) and the car is overheating. I suspect that it could be due to a malfunction of the controlled air flap. Has anyone had similar problems and possibly had them fixed by a mechanic? I had a rather bad experience last time and would like to hear your opinions and experiences before I go to the garage again. Many thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

A 2012 Ford Territory is experiencing overheating and an indicator light issue, suspected to be caused by a malfunctioning controlled air flap. A similar issue was resolved in a 2015 Ford Focus, where a defective wiring harness behind the bumper affected the radiator shutter, requiring bumper removal for repair. The suggested solution involves checking and potentially repairing the wiring harness and controlled air flap, with an emphasis on finding a reliable mechanic to ensure the problem is fixed effectively.

Hello, I can well understand your situation. I had a similar problem with my 2015 Ford Focus. The radiator was getting excessively hot and the indicator light was constantly coming on. It turned out that the wiring harness of the radiator shutter was defective/rubbed up behind the bumper. It was a pretty serious problem because the air shutter that regulates the airflow to the radiator was not working. In any case, it was necessary to remove the entire bumper to fix the problem. Not an easy job, but fortunately the people at the workshop did a good job. I hope my experiences can help you a little before you go to the mechanic. I wish you the best of luck! Best regards!

Hey, thanks for your answer! Your experience sounds really similar to my situation. Removing the whole bumper, that sounds like a lot of work. Do you remember how much it cost you to have it repaired? And were there any additional problems afterwards or has everything gone smoothly since then? Best regards and thanks again for your help!

Hey, no problem, you're welcome! So, the repair costs to fix the defective wiring harness of the radiator blind behind the bumper amounted to €215.0. It wasn't exactly cheap, but afterwards everything was tip-top again. So it was worth it. As for the controlled air flap, it was also malfunctioning, but since I've been to the mechanic, the problem has been fixed. I haven't had any more problems since then, the car has been running like clockwork ever since. So don't worry, everything will work out if you put it in good hands! Best wishes and good luck!

Hey, sorry for the late reply. Thank you for the detailed information and the amount! It's a fair amount of money, but if there are no further problems after that, I think it's acceptable. Of course, it's always a relief to hear that other people have had similar experiences and have successfully resolved their problems. So I will be making an appointment with the garage soon. Thanks again for your help and advice. Really much appreciated! Best regards!
