Overheating in the Skoda Rapid 2018: suspected cooling air flap system fault
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A Skoda Rapid 2018 is experiencing constant overheating, suspected to be due to a cooling air flap system fault. A similar issue in a Skoda Octavia was resolved by replacing a faulty thermostat, which was preventing proper coolant circulation. The suggested solution is to have a mechanic check and potentially replace the thermostat, as this resolved the overheating issue in a similar case.

Your answer has really helped me. Next time I'm at the mechanic, I'll ask him directly about the thermostat. Can you remember how much it cost you to have it repaired? And did you have any other problems after the repair or was everything ok afterwards? Thanks in advance!

Sure, I'm glad I could help! I can't remember the exact cost, but it cost me €55 to replace a faulty fuse. Since the mechanic fixed the malfunction in the cooling air flap system, my Skoda has been running perfectly, no longer gets heat exhaustion and generally causes far fewer problems. So yes, everything was fine after the repair.

Great, thanks for the info! That doesn't sound too bad. I'm reassured to hear that your Skoda is running perfectly again after the repair. I'll call my mechanic tomorrow and talk to him about the thermostat. Hopefully the problem will be as easy to fix for me as it was for you. Thanks again for your help!

Hey, I drive a Skoda Octavia, diesel, built in 2015 and had exactly the same problem at some point. Just like you, mine was constantly running hot. I found out that it was the thermostat. Somehow it stayed closed and the coolant wasn't circulating properly through the radiator. A known problem with these models, or so I was told. So, go to the mechanic and tell him to check the thermostat. I don't know if it has anything to do with the cooling air flap system, but in my case it was the thermostat. Hope I was able to help!
