Overheating problems and illuminated check engine light on Toyota Aygo 2009 - thermostat fault?

Overheating

Check engine light on

Hi folks, my 2009 Toyota Aygo with a gasoline engine is experiencing strange problems. The car overheats and the check engine light comes on. I think it could be the coolant thermostat. Has anyone had similar experiences and can give me tips on how this was solved in the workshop? I would be happy to hear any advice and experiences. Thank you!

Hi, I had similar problems with my 2007 Toyota Yaris. I have little experience with cars, but I know that such symptoms could indicate a problem with the cooling system. At my garage, they found that there was damage to the wiring harness, which caused the check engine light to come on. The repair cost me 170 euros, but afterwards my car ran perfectly again. It would be helpful if you could provide more information about your car, for example whether you have already done anything to the cooling system or how many kilometers your car has covered. The more information we have, the better we can help you.

Hey, thanks for the tip! My Aygo already has 268552 kilometers on the clock. I haven't had anything done to the cooling system yet. Due to the high mileage, I'm worried that the repair could be very expensive. With your tip, I'll now go to the garage and ask about the wiring harness. I would never have thought that this could also be a reason. Thanks again!

Hey, no problem! I'm glad if I could help. With so many kilometers on the clock, several problems can indeed occur. But don't panic! Not all repairs have to be expensive. Exactly, have the wiring harness checked in the workshop first. With my Yaris, that was the solution in the end. Maybe it's the same with your Aygo. And please remember not to neglect the cooling system. A functioning thermostat is extremely important for regulating the engine temperature. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it won't be too expensive! Keep us up to date. Because we also learn with every new piece of information. Cheers!

Hey, thanks for the encouraging words! You're right, I definitely shouldn't panic right away, maybe it's just the wiring harness problem like yours. I also have a good feeling about having it checked. And it sounds logical about the cooling system, I'll definitely look into that. It's really cool that everyone here is so helpful. As soon as I know anything new, I'll let you know. Then hopefully we can all learn something from it. Cheers back and see you then!
