Overloaded diesel particulate filter in Skoda Octavia 2014: experience and advice wanted

Hey guys, I'm a bit worried about my 2014 Skoda Octavia diesel, which now has a good 202,345km on the clock. I've recently started having problems with black smoke on acceleration, loss of engine power and a strong exhaust smell. In addition, the check engine light has come on and there are problems with the DPF regeneration. I strongly suspect that the diesel particulate filter is overloaded. Have any of you had similar experiences and can report how it went at the mechanic? Unfortunately I had no luck last time and am looking for advice. Many thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

A 2014 Skoda Octavia diesel with over 202,345 km is experiencing black smoke on acceleration, loss of engine power, a strong exhaust smell, and a check engine light, indicating potential diesel particulate filter (DPF) overload. The problem may stem from the DPF being clogged, which can lead to serious engine damage if not addressed. A similar case involved cleaning and replacing parts of the DPF, resolving the issue effectively. Prompt attention from a reliable mechanic is advised to prevent further complications.

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2011 Skoda Superb Diesel. I noticed black smoke and a strong exhaust smell, just like you. The check engine light also came on, which drove me straight to the mechanic. And just as you suspect, my DPF was overloaded. The diesel particulate filter had to be cleaned and a part replaced. It was a serious matter as overloading the filter can seriously damage the engine. So, I wouldn't hesitate to get your car in for repairs as soon as possible. But don't worry too much, they sorted it out pretty quickly at the garage. Hope this helps you!

Hey, thanks for the reply! I'm a little reassured to hear that you had the same problem and got it sorted out so quickly at the workshop. Can you perhaps remember what you had to pay for it? And did anything else come up afterwards in connection with the DPF or has everything been fine since then? Thanks again for your help!

Hey, sure, no problem! Well, I had to pay around €1550 at the time because the diesel particulate filter was defective due to the high mileage and was a really tough nut for the mechanic to crack, but he managed it. Since I took the car to the mechanic, the problem with the "diesel particulate filter heavily loaded" has completely disappeared. No further treatment was necessary and my car has been running like a well-oiled machine ever since. It would be really good if you had your car checked too. Hopefully that will help you!

Hey, that's really helpful, thanks! It's good to know that there was no further trouble with the DPF afterwards and that your car is now running well. 1550 sounds pretty steep, but if there's no more worries afterwards, then it's probably worth it. I'm going to take my car to a reliable mechanic who was recommended to me by a friend. I hope I have better luck than last time. Thanks again for your information and advice!
