Oxygen sensor error on Mini Countryman hybrid
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Mini Countryman hybrid is experiencing an oxygen sensor error, leading to a check engine light and increased fuel consumption. The suspected cause is a defective cable or plug connection, but initial checks did not resolve the issue. A faulty oxygen sensor heater element is identified as the problem, confirmed by error codes. Replacing the oxygen sensor resolves the issue, eliminating the warning light and potentially normalizing fuel consumption.

Yeah, it's driving me nuts! The error code does point to the oxygen sensor heater. I'm wondering though, you mentioned checking the heater element specifically? How did you go about that? Was it just a visual inspection, or did you do some sensor testing with a multimeter or something?

Okay, so for me, the error code specifically pointed to the heater circuit being open. I didn't do any sensor testing myself; honestly, I'm not that confident with a multimeter. I just took it to a workshop and they confirmed it was the heater element within the oxygen sensor. Probably best to get it properly diagnosed, you know? Could save you money in the long run, rather than just replacing parts.

Thanks a bunch for the feedback! Turns out, the error code was spot on. I got the oxygen sensor on my Mini Countryman replaced, and that seems to have fixed the issue. The exhaust system warning light is gone, and I'm hoping my fuel consumption will go back to normal now. All in, it cost me 95€ including the sensor testing. Fingers crossed this is the end of it!

Hey, that sounds frustrating! I had a similar issue with my Opel a while back. Check engine light, higher fuel consumption, the whole shebang. Turned out to be a faulty oxygen sensor as well, messing with the air-fuel ratio. Did you check the sensor's heater element? Sometimes it's not the sensor itself, but the heater that's gone bad. Do you have the error codes that came up?
