Oxygen Sensor Heater Failure

Having trouble with my 2023 Honda Avancier (gasoline engine). The check engine light is on, and the error memory says it's an oxygen sensor heater failure. I've also noticed higher fuel consumption with 183365 km on the clock. Could it be a faulty sensor, or is there anything else I should check before replacing it? I'm thinking it might be the cable or plug connection, but where do I even start?

Summary of the thread

The conversation revolves around a 2023 Honda Avancier experiencing a check engine light due to an oxygen sensor heater failure, accompanied by increased fuel consumption. The problem could stem from a faulty sensor or issues with the cable or plug connection. Suggestions include checking the air-fuel ratio with an OBD2 scanner and inspecting for loose or corroded connections. Ultimately, the issue was resolved by replacing the faulty oxygen sensor, restoring normal vehicle function.

I had a similar issue with my Avancier. Same symptoms - check engine light and all. Have you checked the air-fuel ratio to see if it's off? When you say 'cable or plug connection', are you thinking there's a loose wire somewhere?

Yes, exactly! I was thinking maybe a loose or corroded connection at the sensor itself. And no, I haven't checked the air-fuel ratio yet. Is that something I can easily do myself, or will I need special equipment?

You can check the air-fuel ratio with an OBD2 scanner, but honestly, with a heater circuit failure, it's likely the sensor itself or a wiring issue. I would suggest having a workshop take a look, especially since you're seeing increased fuel consumption. It's a pretty standard problem, and you can expect a cost of around 95€, if it is the sensor.

Thanks so much for the advice! I really appreciate it. I took it to the shop, and you were right – it was the oxygen sensor heater element. They replaced the faulty sensor, and everything's running smoothly again. Huge relief!
