Paceman diesel rough idle and jerking

Alright, 2013 Mini gurus, I've got a head-scratcher. My Mini Paceman diesel is acting up. The check engine light is on, it has a rough idle, sometimes stalls at idle, and there's some pretty significant jerking when accelerating. My code reader is pointing towards a defective fuel pressure sensor. I've checked the obvious things, but could a defective cable or plug connection really cause all these symptoms, or is it more likely something major within the fuel system?

Sounds awfully familiar! I had similar issues with my Paceman. Check engine light, rough idle, and jerking acceleration. For me, it was the fuel system acting up. Have you looked at the fuel pump relay? It's an easy check before diving deeper. It could be something simple, like a bad connection to the pressure sensor. Think of it like a loose wire on a lamp – sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Thanks for the quick reply. You mentioned a bad connection to the pressure sensor. Was your Paceman throwing any specific engine misfire codes, or was it just a general rough running condition? And where exactly is the fuel pump relay located? I want to rule out the simple stuff first.

Yes, I was getting intermittent misfire codes along with the rough running. Definitely sounds like the same issue. I'd still suggest checking the relay. However, based on what you are describing, I'd put money on the pressure sensor itself being faulty, or at least having a dodgy connection. Honestly, at this point, save yourself the headache and take it to a workshop. They can properly diagnose the fuel pressure sensor and fuel system. It's worth it for the peace of mind.

Just wanted to close the loop on this. After checking all the connections, I took it in. Turns out the fuel pressure sensor was indeed the culprit, just like you suspected. New sensor and labor came to 95€. Runs like a champ again. Thanks for the help!
