Palio rough running engine light

Hi, I'm having a strange issue with my 2001 Fiat Palio 1.9 diesel. It's done 136650 km. The engine's been running rough lately, and the check engine light keeps popping on. I hooked it up to an onboard diagnostics tool and it's throwing an error related to "reset quantity drift compensation." Has anyone encountered this before? I suspect it could be a defective injection valve or injector. Any insights?

Summary of the thread

A 2001 Fiat Palio 1.9 diesel was experiencing rough running and a persistent check engine light, with diagnostics indicating a "reset quantity drift compensation" error. The issue was suspected to be a defective injection valve or injector. After consulting with others and visiting a workshop, it was confirmed that a faulty injector was causing the problem. Replacing the injector resolved the issue, and the engine is now running smoothly.

I had a similar problem with my Fiat Brava – although it wasn't the same year. Rough running and the engine light coming on sounds familiar. Did your onboard diagnostics give you any specific error codes? It might help narrow down which injector is causing the issue. Fuel injection problems can be tricky.

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, the onboard diagnostics indicated an issue with the drift compensation, but it wasn't specific about which injector. Is there a way to test them individually without pulling them all out? Or could it be a sensor issue messing with the fuel injection?

Honestly, without specialized tools, testing them individually at home is difficult. In my case, I also suspected a sensor, but it turned out to be the injector itself. Given the "drift compensation" error, it really does point towards an injector problem. To avoid further damage, I'd recommend getting it checked out by a workshop with the proper diagnostic equipment. They can pinpoint the faulty injector and replace it. It's worth the money for peace of mind.

Thanks, that confirms my suspicions. I appreciate the advice. I took it to a local workshop, and after a thorough check, they confirmed it was a defective injector. The drift compensation was indeed off due to the injector's failure. They replaced the injector, and after the repair which set me back 515€, the engine is running smoothly again.
