Palio Rough Running Stalling

I'm having trouble with my 2018 Fiat Palio with a gasoline engine. It's got 141393 km on it. Lately, the engine's been running really rough, and it even stalls sometimes when I'm idling. The check engine light is also on. Plus, it feels like the car is jerking when I try to accelerate. Could this be related to a defective ignition coil? I checked the cables and plugs, and they seem okay, but could a bad connection still be the culprit?

Summary of the thread

A 2018 Fiat Palio with 141393 km is experiencing rough running, stalling, and a check engine light, with noticeable jerking during acceleration. The initial suspicion is a defective ignition coil, despite seemingly intact cables and plugs. After further discussion, it is suggested that an internal fault in the ignition coil could be the cause. The problem is confirmed at a workshop, where replacing the defective ignition coil resolves the issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Rough running, stalling, and a check engine light? Sounds familiar. I had a similar problem with my Palio. Have you checked the spark plugs recently? Sometimes a faulty coil can cause them to foul up quickly. Was the engine jerking particularly noticeable at lower RPMs?

Spark plugs could be the problem too, you're right! I didn't check them actually. Is it possible for the ignition coil to cause this, even if the connections look alright at first glance? And yes, the jerking is definitely more noticeable at lower RPMs.

Yeah, even if the connections look okay, there could be an internal fault within the coil itself. Given all the symptoms you're describing, it really does sound like coil failure. Honestly, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop to get it properly diagnosed. Much easier than trying to figure it out yourself.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I took it to the workshop and you were spot on - it was indeed a defective ignition coil. They replaced it, and the car is running smoothly again. The repair cost me 95€.
