Panamera Diesel Troubles: EGR Valve The Likely Culprit?
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Panamera Diesel is experiencing rough engine performance, stalling, power loss, shaking at idle, and a strong exhaust smell, with the check engine light on. The suspected cause is a faulty EGR valve, as similar symptoms were resolved in an Audi A8 Diesel by replacing the EGR valve. The repair process is generally quick, taking about 3-4 hours, but part availability can affect timing. It is also suggested to consider cleaning the intake manifold during the repair for improved engine performance.

Thanks for sharing your Audi experience! Mine's currently at 68910 KM and had its last service about 3 months ago. Haven't had the codes read yet, but planning to get that done tomorrow at my local shop. The issues started pretty suddenly last week. Really hoping it's just the EGR valve like in your case and nothing more serious. Was your repair pretty straightforward once they diagnosed it? I'm trying to get a sense of how long I might be without the car.

Hey again! Thanks for the follow-up. Yeah, my A8 was around 75,000 KM when I had these issues, so pretty similar to your Panamera's mileage. Good call on getting those codes read, that'll definitely help pinpoint things. In my case, once they diagnosed it, the actual repair was pretty quick, took them about 3-4 hours total. The tricky part was making sure they had the part in stock. I got lucky and they had one, but sometimes you might need to wait a day or two for it to arrive. Just a heads up from my experience, when they fixed my EGR valve, they also recommended cleaning the intake manifold while they were at it. I went for it since everything was already opened up, and it turned out to be a good call. Made a noticeable difference in how the engine ran afterward. The whole thing cost me a bit more than I mentioned before because of the extra cleaning, but it was worth it. Car's been running like new for the past year. Once you get those codes read, let me know what they say. I still have my diagnostic report somewhere if you want to compare notes!

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! That's really helpful to hear about the intake manifold cleaning too, definitely something I'll keep in mind when I take it in. It's a relief to know the repair itself isn't too time-consuming. I'll make sure to ask about part availability when I go in tomorrow for the diagnostic check. Really appreciate you offering to compare diagnostic reports too. I'll definitely update you once I get the codes read. Fingers crossed it's as straightforward as your case was! Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience, it's made me feel a lot better about the whole situation. I'll let you know how it goes!

Hey there! I had quite similar symptoms on my 2012 Audi A8 Diesel (I also own an A6). I've got some experience working with cars, though I'm not a pro mechanic. Had exactly the same issues, rough running, unusual stalls, and that annoying power loss. My EGR valve was completely stuck, causing all sorts of trouble. Took it to my trusted workshop, and they diagnosed it pretty quickly. Complete replacement was needed, cost me 355€ including labor. Things have been running smoothly since then. Before I share more specific details, could you tell me if you've had any diagnostic codes read? Also, what's your mileage? These details would help me give you more relevant info from my experience.
