Panda diesel low exhaust pressure
Summary of the thread
A 2004 Fiat Panda diesel exhibited reduced engine power, smoke during acceleration, and a strong exhaust smell, leading to suspicions of low exhaust pressure potentially linked to the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). The issue was identified as a faulty exhaust back pressure sensor, which was causing the low pressure reading. Replacing the sensor resolved the problem, restoring the vehicle's performance.

Thanks for the quick reply! How did you confirm it was the exhaust back pressure sensor? Were there any other indicators or tests you performed?

Well, honestly, I didn't confirm it myself. After experiencing the reduced power and exhaust smell, I took it straight to a workshop. They diagnosed the faulty sensor causing the low pressure reading. Best to get it professionally checked to be sure.

Thanks! Appreciate the advice. Turns out it was indeed the exhaust back pressure sensor. Got it replaced for 245€. Running much better now!

Sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my Panda. Is it struggling with DPF regeneration, maybe? Low pressure in the diesel exhaust system can cause those symptoms. Could be the exhaust back pressure sensor. Get it checked!
