Panda transmission fault
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Fiat Panda diesel is experiencing a transmission fault where the car mistakenly remains in park, preventing the engine from starting and causing the check engine light to illuminate. The issue is suspected to be linked to the transmission control unit, as indicated by an error code. The suggested solution involves a professional transmission repair, which was confirmed and resolved at a workshop.

Shift lock? Park brake switch? Where would I even find those to check them? I'm not very mechanically minded, to be honest.

Okay, given the symptoms and error code, plus the fact that the engine won't start, a defective transmission control unit is a strong possibility. It's beyond a simple fix. You will need a transmission repair.

Thanks for the info. I took it to a workshop, and they confirmed it was the transmission control unit, just like you said. Cost me about 1000€ to get it sorted. Appreciate the help!

Sounds like a potential issue with the transmission control unit. Is the shift lock engaging properly? Have you checked the park brake switch?
