Partner diesel engine power loss

My 2008 Peugeot Partner diesel is having issues. It's got 223,000 km on it. Recently, the engine power dropped noticeably, and the check engine light is on. The engine also runs rough and jerks when accelerating. Sometimes, it stalls when idling. I cleaned the mass airflow sensor, thinking it might be causing a rich mixture, but that didn't solve it. I also checked for air leaks in the intake manifold system, but couldn't find anything. Could this be a fuel injection problem, maybe a defective injector?

A mixture preparation error can stem from issues within the fuel injection system. Before proceeding, have you checked the condition of your air filter? A clogged filter can impact the air-fuel ratio. Also, what diagnostic trouble codes are being reported by the check engine light?

I replaced the air filter recently, so I don't think that's the issue. I got a P0172 which indicates a rich mixture. Is there anything else I should be checking before assuming it's the injectors? I'm trying to avoid a costly repair if possible.

A P0172 code strongly suggests an overly rich air-fuel ratio. While other components can contribute, the symptoms you describe, coupled with the diagnostic code, do indicate a likely issue with the fuel injection system. Consider consulting a qualified workshop for diagnosis and repair to avoid potential damage.

I took it to a workshop, and after diagnosis, it turned out that one of the injectors was indeed defective. The repair, including parts and labor, came to around 515€. It's running smoothly again now!
