The battery was tested and showed signs of being heavily discharged. Could a defective battery cause such widespread overvoltage issues and electrical malfunctions? I thought a bad battery would simply fail to provide enough power, not cause an overvoltage.

Precisely! Think of it like this: if the battery is heavily discharged or defective, the alternator might be working overtime to compensate, potentially leading to overvoltage. While it’s counterintuitive, a weak battery can indeed trigger such problems. I'd advise taking it to a workshop for a thorough diagnosis; they can pinpoint the exact cause. The estimated cost for this was 290€.

Your insight elucidated the situation perfectly. I visited a workshop, and it turned out to be a defective battery that was causing the alternator to overcompensate, as you suggested. Replacing the battery resolved all the overvoltage issues and electrical malfunctions. Thank you again for your assistance!

I had something similar with my Partner. It's like the electrical system is a dam, and too much water is trying to get through. The overvoltage errors and system failures point towards a potential alternator issue, but the weak battery suggests it might also be struggling to hold a charge. Has the battery been tested recently?
